Asadullah Chalid

Asadullah Chalid (2011)

Asadullah Chalid is an Afghan politician. He was Governor of Kandahar Province from 2001 to 2005 and Governor of Ghazni Province from 2005 to 2008 . He then became Minister for Tribal Affairs and Special Envoy for Southern Afghanistan in the government of Hamid Karzai . On December 23, 2018, President Ghani nominated him as Minister of Defense.

Chalid is Pashtun . He studied politics at the University of Kabul , but dropped out early and joined the Northern Alliance .

Attacks on Chalid

On May 17, 2007, he was committed to a suicide attack, but survived it with minor injuries.

On December 6, 2012, a grenade exploded in a guest house where Chalid was staying. He survived seriously injured.

Torture allegations

On April 12, 2010, CBC News made serious charges against Chalid. A torture cellar is said to have been located under his guest house. There are also reports of documents accusing Canadian diplomat Chris Alexander Chalid of bombing five United Nations employees to protect his drug trafficking activities.
