ask.fm is a website to ask questions to users. A user account is required for asking and answering questions, but not just for viewing profiles. Registration can be done through the website itself, Facebook , Twitter or Vkontakte.ru . The website is based in Ireland , until November 2014 it was in Riga . The portal has 160 million members (as of July 2015). Ask.fm was founded by Ilja Terebin, Mark Terebin and Oskar Liepins.

On the user page you can ask the respective user a question, similar to Tellonym , answering is voluntary. A user account is mandatory from June 2015 to ask questions, but you can still choose whether or not the user asking the question remains anonymous. The subsequent deletion of answered questions is also possible. The question does not appear until it has been answered by the user. Since May 2011 it has also been possible to answer the question with a video answer. There is also the option of using a picture as an answer. Since March 2014 this also includes animated GIFs . The website's AlexaRank is 204 (as of January 2015). Questions can also be asked or answered using the ask.fm mobile applications (app) . These are available in the AppStore for Apple iOS devices and in the Google Play Store for Android devices. This app can also be used to take photos or videos in addition to answering the text.

Cyber ​​bullying

After the website was linked to cyber bullying and several teenage suicides, in which the perpetrators used the anonymity of the service to harass their victims, an attempt was made to counter this with a safety advisory board in January 2015 .

New owner and change of seat

On November 3, 2014, the website posted a statement announcing that the company had a new owner and was moving to Ireland. Therefore, the terms of use and the privacy policy changed.
