ʽAssa Gaila (also: Assa Gaïla , Assa-Gueyla ; Arabic أسا غايلا) is a place in the north of the Tadjoura region of Djibouti .
geography
ʽAssa Gaila is the center for the population of the area with the spring of the same name. The settlement area lies in an extensive plain that opens to the north. As a "border town", the place has 675 inhabitants. The city is about 51 km (as the crow flies) north of Tadjoura (77 km by road) and 20 km south of the border with Eritrea . The RN13 runs through the village. The city has the Assa-Gueyla Airport .
history
In the early 1990s the territory was evacuated to the town of Randa in the south due to border conflicts . On July 5, 1993, the government launched a massive counter-offensive in the rebel-controlled areas: the base of the front for the restoration of unity and democracy (Front pour la Restauration de l'Unité et de la Démocratie, Arabic الجبهة من أجل استعادة الوحدة والديمقراطيةFRUD - Afar) in ʽAssa Gaila fell into the hands of the government troops, who again controlled the areas around Balho , Dorra and Randa. The rebels withdrew to the mountains on the border with Eritrea.
fauna
Typical desert animals such as spotted hyenas live in the area . Acacia species and doum palm trees ( Hyphaene thebaica doum palm ar .: دوم) thrive on the waterways .

Assa Gaila has a hot desert climate ( BWh ) in the Köppen-Geiger system , with the influence of mountain climates , the seasonal changes are minimal.
