The dam Azután ( Spanish Presa de Azután ) is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the town of Azután , province of Toledo , Spain . It damms the Tagus into a reservoir. The dam is used for both power generation and irrigation. It was completed in 1969. The dam is owned and operated by Iberdrola Generacion SA .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete pillar dam with a height of 55 m above the foundation level . The top of the wall is at a height of 357 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 419 (or 500) m. The volume of the dam is 211,000 (or 212,000) m³.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 196 (or 200) m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 6,300 (or 7,200) m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 6,900 m³ / s.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 354 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 12.5 km² and holds 84 (or 113) million m³ of water.
power plant
The installed capacity of the power plant is 180 (or 200) MW . When the actual output of the three machines was checked on February 1, 2001, values between 61.07 and 62.51 MW were determined. The height of fall is 32 m; the maximum flow rate is 750 m³ / s. The machine house is on the right side of the river.
