The dam Cedillo ( Spanish Presa de Cedillo ) is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the municipality of Cedillo , province of Cáceres , Spain ; it is located in the binational Parque natural del Tajo Internacional . It dams both the Tajo and the Sever , both of which form the border with Portugal , to form a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity. It was completed in 1975 (or 1978). The dam is owned and operated by Iberdrola Generacion SA .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a weight-arched concrete wall with a height of 66 m above the foundation level . The top of the wall is at a height of 120 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 413 (or 418) m. The volume of the dam is 239,000 (or 830,000) m³.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 504 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 16,200 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 17,000 m³ / s.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 115 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 14 km² and holds 260 (or 261) million m³ of water.
power plant
The installed capacity of the power plant is 440 (or 495 or 500) MW . The height of fall is 35 m; the maximum flow rate is 1500 m³ / s. The machine house is located below the dam in the middle.
