history

Assumstadt Castle, in front of the castle was the parish church of the village until shortly before 1800

The place name was once Asmansstat or Asamstat , which identifies it as the place of settlement of an Asman or Asmund. The place shares the early history of Züttlingen and above all of Domeneck Castle . In 1455 Domeneck and Assumstadt were owned by the Stumpff von Schweinbergs , and in 1534 by the Hartheimers . In 1624 Assumstadt was owned by Johann Kaspar von Herda , who moved his seat from Domeneck Castle to Assumstadt and had a castle built for it around 1630. With the marriage of one of his granddaughters, the place came to the barons of Ellrichshausen in 1676 . Under Karl Reinhard von Ellrichshausen , the old castle was replaced by today's Assumstadt Castle from 1769 .

A parish in Assumstadt is attested as early as the late Middle Ages. Under the Lords of Hardheim, the Reformation was carried out in Assumstadt and Züttlingen in 1539 with the adoption of a Protestant pastor and in future Züttlingen was cared for from Assumstadt. The old church in Assumstadt was demolished shortly before 1800, and in future the services were only held in Züttlingen.

In 1937 Hubert Graf von Waldburg zu Wolfegg and Waldsee bought the castle from the Ellrichshausen family. It is currently run by Hubertus Graf von Waldburg zu Wolfegg and Waldsee.
