Astrid Platzmann-Scholten

Astrid Platzmann-Scholten (* August 25, 1959 in Bochum as Astrid Platzmann ) is a German local politician from Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and has been mayor of Bochum since 2004 .

Career

Platzmann-Scholten is a trained specialist in gynecology . In 1982 she joined the Greens; there she is primarily involved in social affairs, health policy, the anti-nuclear power movement and anti-racism . She is co-founder of BoSprInt , an association that seeks donations for the integration of migrants .

In the mayoral elections in September 2004, she was first elected mayor of Bochum by the city council. She was confirmed in this office in 2009 and 2014. In the City Council, of which she has been a member from 1996 to 1999 and again since 2004, she chairs her parliamentary group and the Committee on Labor, Health and Social Affairs.

She achieved national political importance through criticism of the asylum compromise against her own party. She is close to the left wing of her party.

Private

Platzmann-Scholten is married and has three children. In addition to her work as a local politician, she runs an advice center on AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
