Astro Boy: Omega Factor ( Japanese ASTRO BOY ・ 鉄 腕 ア ト ム - ア ト ム ハ ー ト の 秘密 - , Astro Boy: Tetsuwan Atomu - Atomu Hāto no Himitsu ) is a video game in the side-scrolling beat 'em up genre that was released in 2003 in Japan for the Game Boy Advance was released, followed by releases in the US and Europe over the next two years. It is based on Astro Boy and offers, in addition to the action-oriented gameplay, a complex story that uses many characters from the Astro Boy universe.

Game mechanics

Astro Boy is able to kick and punch and fire a laser beam. In addition, two special attacks are available, but their use is limited via an energy bar, the bar can be filled by hitting opponents. Astro Boy also has an evasive action that allows you to fly in a straight line for a brief moment and be invulnerable. All of the above actions can be leveled up in the course of the game, which causes more damage to the opponent or greater range.

In addition to the normal side-scrolling beat 'em up levels, the game also has shoot'em up levels, in which Astro Boy flies, the kicks and punches are omitted here, but the laser beam and special attacks are still available.

After playing through the first linear game once, the player has the opportunity to revisit previous sections via a level selection, this allows him to search for hidden characters that are needed to advance in the story and see the actual end of the game.

reception

The reviews of: "Astro Boy: Omega Factor" were positive. The good graphics for Game Boy Advance standards were praised, as was the good use of the Astro Boy license through a complex story that went far beyond the usual standards in the genre. The boss fights and the possibility of leveling up one's character were also praised. The slowdowns that occur in some places in the game were listed as a negative point.

GameSpot called it one of the best action titles on the Game Boy Advance while 1up called it one of the best 2D side scrollers in years. On Metacritic it is listed with a test average of 85%.
