Asymptote Architecture

Asymptote Architecture is a global American architecture firm; it was founded in 1989 by Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture and is based in New York City . The office is considered a pioneer in the field of visionary architectural theory and, above all, computer-generated, virtual architecture.

Buildings and projects

In 2010 Asymptote is working on a 100,000 m² urban design in Bergamo, Italy, as well as on the World Business Center Solomon Tower in Busan , South Korea , which will be one of the highest in Asia with a height of 560 m. A large hotel and theater complex for the Global City Center in Penang Malaysia is also in the works.

A luxury apartment complex in the West Village in New York City was nearing completion in 2010 .

Buildings realized by Asymptote include the Hydra Pier Pavilion in Haarlemmermeer in North Holland from 2002, several flagship stores for Carlos Miele and Alessi in New York City and the Yas Hotel in Abu Dhabi (2009).

In 1992, Anne Couture and Hani Rashid designed a hypothetical building for Times Square for the New York Times . A virtual museum for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum followed in 2000 . In the same year Hani Rashid represented the United States at the VII Venice Architecture Biennale, and in 2004 Rashid and Couture developed the exhibition design for the Ninth Architecture Biennale in Venice. Asymptote's works were also shown in Germany at Documenta 11 in Kassel and in the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt.

Awards

In 2004, Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture received the Austrian Friedrich Kiesler Prize for Architecture and Art for their extraordinary ability to conceptually fuse art and architecture.
