The Atalanta is a former pilot schooner built in 1901 and was in this function from 1901 to 1929, at that time still under the name Cuxhaven , underway in the Elbe estuary . After decommissioning in 1930, the yacht was rebuilt with rigging , engine and new interior fittings and the ship was renamed to its current name. In 1950 the Bank MM Warburg, Brinkmann Wirtz & Co. acquired the pilot protector and operated it for over 40 years. In 1995 the ship became the property of the “Förderverein Schoner Atalanta eV” in Wismar through a donation from the Warburg Bank. After an eight-year restoration phase, the ship was put back into service as a youth ship in 2001.
