Atalanti or Atalandi ( Greek Αταλάντη ( f. Sg. ), Pronunciation : [ ataˈlandi ]) is an uninhabited small island in the Saronic Gulf in Greece . Strabo already mentioned the island. The island is located about 700 m southwest of the island of Psyttalia . To the west of the island lies the wreck of the Melody ferry , which ran aground here on July 7, 1990.
history
Archaeologists from the University of Ioannina found the foundation walls and ceramic fragments of a small refugee settlement from the early Byzantine period (6th – 7th centuries BC) here. It was probably associated with an early Byzantine settlement in the north-west of Psyttalia. In the east of the island there is an accumulation of shards of small, black glazed vessels, which mainly come from the classical period .
Nisis Atalandi lighthouse
At the highest point of the island is the Nisis Atalandi lighthouse (international serial number: N 4169). The 5 m high tower is made of steel and has a fire height of 8 m. The visibility of the white lights is 4 nm and the red 2 nm.
