Terlusollogy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Terlusollogie (portmanteau of the Latin terra earth luna moon and sol sun, and Greek  λόγος word, teaching) is an alternative medical postulated concept that two respiratory or constitutional types. The teaching is spread by the German doctors Charlotte (1909–2016) and Christian Hagena (* 1948) and goes back to a type theory of the violinist Erich Wilk (1915–2000). It is occasionally used in the areas of alternative medicine, singing, vocal pedagogy, speech therapy and speech training, as well as instrumental playing.

There are no scientific studies to validate the terlusology. There are two critical scientific papers that classify the teaching as pseudoscience .

The word "Terlusollogie" is registered as a trademark .

Teaching

The doctrine postulates an influence of the sun and moon on humans, which manifests itself in two types of breath or constitution: the lunar inhalation type and the solar exhalation type . The influence that predominates on the day of birth or on the first independent breathing should be lifelong from the point of view of Terlusollogy.

The lunar part is assumed to be between 1% at the new moon and 99% at the full moon , the solar part between 1% on December 21st ( beginning of winter ) and 99% on June 21st ( beginning of summer ).

The two types of breathing should differ primarily in the way they breathe (different use of the chest or abdomen for breathing and different emphasis on the breathing phases of inhalation and exhalation). As a result of the two different types of breathing, two constitutional types should develop, which clearly differ from one another, especially in terms of posture, exercise and diet.

Permanent deviations from the typical breathing characteristics described in detail in the teaching should lead to reduced performance and impaired health.

distribution

Terlusollogy is mainly widespread in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and is also known under the names "Breath type theory according to Wilk", "Breath type theory" or "solar / lunar".

Practical use

The core of terlological practice is working with the relationships between breathing, posture and movement. A series of twelve physical exercises for each of the two breathing types serves as the basis for this.

These exercises are intended to stimulate the auxiliary breathing muscles through targeted movements or postures. Erich Wilk claims to have derived and developed it through many years of observation of the behavior of people of different breathing types in everyday life, art and sport. They should - carried out precisely and regularly - promote an economic self-organization of the body with regard to breathing, posture and movement (including fine motor skills).

In addition, the teaching gives recommendations and instructions on general lifestyle and medical areas.

Terlological methods are used in various areas, including: a. in singing and voice, in playing instruments, in various Asian techniques, in pedagogy, alternative medicine or in business coaching.

Scientific classification and criticism

Despite a certain distribution, especially in the fields of singing, vocal pedagogy, instrumental playing (wind instruments), speech therapy and speech training, teaching is controversial - especially among vocal teachers, voice trainers, respiratory therapists and speech therapists. Scientific studies of the Terlusollogen to validate their teaching are missing. On the other hand, there are two critical scientific papers:

  • The singer, speaker and voice trainer Frederik Beyer asked around 500 test persons - anonymously via the Internet - about individual assumptions of terlology as part of his diploma thesis. On the basis of his research results he came to the conclusion that the assumptions of terlusology that he was investigating were wrong and that the teaching must be called pseudoscience .
  • The social pedagogue and social informatics specialist Uwe Janatzek has used terlusology as an example of a pseudoscience in his book Pseudoscience Terlusollogie: A Contribution to the Demarcation Problem for Social Work Students . Using typical features, it shows how such a science can be distinguished from real science. He points out the danger of watering down science and practice through the intrusion of questionable teachings and methods such as homeopathy, NLP, kinesiology, shamanism, family constellation, etc., and also terlusology, into various educational areas and thus also into sub-areas of social work down.
