Athanasios Vletsis

Athanasios Vletsis (born November 10, 1956 in Thessaloniki , Greece ) is an Orthodox theologian .

Life

After he had obtained the higher education entrance qualification , Vletsis studied from 1974 to 1979 Orthodox theology and ancient Greek philology (focus on philosophy , Byzantine studies ) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki . At the same time he studied Byzantine church music and worked as a cantor at various Orthodox churches. In 1978 he obtained a diploma in Orthodox theology from the Theological Faculty of Thessaloniki .

From 1980 to 1984 Vletsis did postgraduate studies at the Catholic and Protestant theological faculties of the universities of Vienna , Heidelberg and Tübingen . He wrote his doctoral thesis in 1995 at the University of Thessaloniki with Professor Nikos Matsoukas on the subject of " Ontology of the Fall of Man with Maximus Confessor ".

In addition to his studies, he worked from 1984 to 1996 as a religion teacher at various grammar schools in Greece and Germany (for Orthodox students). From 1996 to 1998 he then held a teaching position for systematic theology (focus on ethics ) at the theological faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since October 1, 1999, he has been Professor of Systematic Theology (focus on dogmatics , ethics and ecumenical theology ) at the training facility for Orthodox theology at the University of Munich .

The focus is on creation theology and anthropology , as well as the connection between dogmatics and ethics; Trends and developments in recent orthodox theology and theology in the west; Ecumenical theology.
