Athyma perius , sometimes referred to as the "Asian Kingfisher", is a butterfly ( butterfly )found in Asiafrom the family of the noble butterfly (Nymphalidae) and the subfamily of the kingfishers (Limenitidinae). In English usage he is referred to as a Common Sergeant .

The wingspan of the moth is 50 to 65 millimeters. There is no sexual dimorphism between the sexes , males and females have the same drawing elements . The basic color of the upper sides of the wings is black to black-brown and, depending on the incidence of light, sometimes shimmers slightly green to bluish. A band made up of white spots extends over the disk region . There are one or two more white spots in the cell . A series of white spots run on the submarginal region of the upper side of the hind wings. The fringes are alternately black and white piebald. A partially broken white line from the basal region to the cell runs parallel to the anterior margin on the upper side of the forewing . On the yellow-brown to orange-brown undersides of the wing, the pattern of spots on the upper side shines through in a similar form. The abdomen is usually ringed white and black.
Similar species
Athyma asura differs primarily in that the row of white spots on the upper side of the hind wing is usually centered black, and the line on the upper side of the forewing parallel to the front edge is thinner and not interrupted.
Caterpillar
The beads are colored predominantly brownish in its early stages and is provided with short branched thorns. The adult caterpillar is essentially green in color, the thorns are red-brown.
Doll
The pupa is light brownish in color and has several horn-like outgrowths on the back and back of the head. It is attached to branches as a falling doll .
Distribution, subspecies and habitat
The species occurs in India , Thailand , Indonesia , Malaysia , Myanmar, as well as in the Himalayan region and in southeast China . Four subspecies are currently classified in the various occurrence areas . Athyma perius prefers to colonize mountainous, moist deciduous forests.
Way of life
The moths fly in several generations a year. They seldom visit flowers to eat, but sometimes take in liquids and minerals in damp places on the earth. The caterpillars feed primarily on leaves of Glochidion species leading to the plant family of Phyllanthaceae belong.
