The Atlantis The Palm, Dubai is a luxury hotel & resort on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai , United Arab Emirates . The Atlantis The Palm was the first hotel on the man-made palm island and opened in September 2008. The theme of the hotel is the sunken city of Atlantis , but incorporates numerous Arabic elements.

location

Atlantis The Palm is Sol Kerzner's second mega-luxury hotel alongside Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas . The hotel is located at the top of the Palm Jumeirah, one of Dubai's man-made palm islands . additional

A 17-hectare aquapark (Aquaventure) with water slides, lagoons and a variety of other leisure facilities is part of the 48-hectare hotel complex. 25,000 cubic meters of water are used for this.

Likewise, a 2.5 km long navigable watercourse winds through the leisure facility. In "Dolphin Bay" guests can swim with trained dolphins. For this purpose, 28 pre-trained dolphins were relocated from the Solomon Islands and acclimatized on site for months. Another part of the water amusement park "Aquaventure" offers numerous pool facilities and slides built with "historical" set pieces up to over 30 m high, including a water slide - "Shark Attack" - in which you slide through a shark tank secured with glass panes .

The myth of the sunken city of Atlantis is also brought to life behind glass as "The Lost Chambers" in the "Ambassador Lagoon": You can see tunnels, underground passages, real and artificial wrecks, objects with treasures, a crashed plane and people "sunken" in the water “Streets and squares that have been decorated with hieroglyphic writing, being careful not to make any sense. The beach area with sunbathing lawns and sun terraces extends for approx. 1.5 km. Investors put the cost of planning and building the facility at US $ 1.8 billion. The entire system is designed and dependent on the use of paying guests from outside the hotel. Around 5000–6500 people are expected every day to experience the attractions.

opening

Shortly before the company opened in September 2008, a fire broke out in Atlantis The Palm. The fire broke out in the hotel lobby, but caused limited damage. The fire was probably caused by welding work.

On November 20, 2008, the hotel was inaugurated as part of the official inauguration of the Palm Jumeirah in front of 2000 invited guests with a party costing around 28 million dollars. The highlights were a 15-minute fireworks display spread across the island, allegedly the "biggest single firework display of all time", which alone is said to have devoured 20 million dollars, as well as the appearance of Kylie Minogue . This 60-minute concert cost a further $ 3.5 million fee. It was reported that $ 1 million was poured in for the mere presence of David Beckham and Victoria Beckham . Atlantis owner Kerzner admitted that the super party would probably have been designed differently if the world financial crisis had not taken one by surprise so late in the preparations.
