The Atlas GmbH (2010-2016 Atlas Maschinen GmbH ) is a medium-sized construction machinery manufacturer based in Ganderkesee . Essentially, the company manufactures wheeled excavator , two-way excavators and crawler excavators in various weight and power categories and loading cranes and medium wheel loaders . In 2013, almost 500 people were employed in three factories at Atlas GmbH.

Atlas GmbH should not be confused with Atlas Weyhausen GmbH. Both companies are organizationally and legally independent. Only the brand name "Atlas" was used by both companies until the end of 2015. Atlas Weyhausen GmbH has been using the brand name “Weycor” for its products since the end of 2015.

history

The beginnings of Atlas GmbH go back to 1919. At that time, Hinrich Weyhausen KG was founded with its headquarters in Delmenhorst . The company initially produced agricultural machinery and agricultural conveyor systems. The “Atlas” trademark was created in 1936, and the first fully hydraulic excavator was manufactured in 1951.

Hinrich Weyhausen KG drove the development of hydraulic excavators steadily forward in the following years and in the 1960s assumed an internationally leading position in the construction of hydraulic excavators . In 1962 around 1000 employees worked for the company in the Vechta , Ganderkesee and Löningen factories . In 1969 the founder Hinrich Weyhausen died and his son Günter Weyhausen took over the management of Hinrich Weyhausen KG.

In 1986, Hinrich Weyhausen KG was renamed Atlas Weyhausen GmbH . The company ran into financial difficulties in 1999 and was sold to EDER Handel und Beteiligungen GmbH , which sold it on to the US construction machinery manufacturer Terex from Westport in 2001 . The name was changed to Atlas-Terex GmbH . The name Atlas Weyhausen GmbH was no longer bound and was taken over in 2010 by the former sister company F. Weyhausen GmbH & Co. KG in the course of a change of legal form (see company history there).

After losses in this business area, it was sold in March 2010 to the investor Filip S. Filipov for one euro. The investor named the newly founded company Atlas Maschinen GmbH . In August 2010, Filipov also acquired the brand name Kaelble from Terex. In April 2016, Atlas Maschinen GmbH changed its name to Atlas GmbH .

Atlas Kompakt GmbH was founded in 2017 at the Delmenhorst location. The company sells mini and midi excavators from the Chinese manufacturer Sunward in the Atlas colors.

Production sites

Atlas GmbH currently has four locations in Germany. In addition to the main plant in Ganderkesee, the plants in Delmenhorst and Vechta as well as the Kaelble plant in Gerabronn also belong to the company. The excavator production takes place in Ganderkesee. The loading cranes are built in Delmenhorst. Cylinders and attachments are manufactured in Vechta .

In the summer of 2014, Atlas announced that it would close the factory in Delmenhorst and move production to the other locations. At the beginning of 2015 it was finally announced that, contrary to the original intentions, the Delmenhorst plant would be kept permanently.

Products

Atlas GmbH is a manufacturer of mobile, crawler and material handlers in different sizes and performance classes. Small, medium and large truck loading cranes are also manufactured. In addition to the products mentioned, Atlas GmbH has also been offering larger wheel loader models from Kaelble GmbH, which Terex acquired in 2010, since 2012. The wheel loaders will continue to be produced especially for Terex under the old “Terex” brand name. Atlas GmbH also produces and markets tunnel excavators and associated attachments under the “Schaeff” brand belonging to Kaelble .
