history

Knut Jacobsson founded Elitmaskiner in Gothenburg in 1958 . At that time, the company only manufactured forklifts for use in halls. In 1966 the company was renamed Atlet.

Initially, the company manufactured hand pallet trucks. Around 1960 the market was dominated by electric forklifts and reach trucks. Knut Jacobsson then invented the pedestrian stacker, which had a lifting capacity comparable to that of the reach truck, but could be used in narrow aisles thanks to its patented side stabilizers.

Atlet started training forklift drivers in the 1970s. The technical development then continued with the computer-based simulation of warehouse management solutions, automatic forklifts and mobile terminal systems. Between 1988 and 1994 Atlet was involved in development projects in collaboration with doctors and occupational therapists. This collaboration resulted in the Tergo®, a reach truck with ergonomic solutions such as a mini steering wheel and individually adjustable armrests.

In 2007, Nissan had acquired Forklift - a subsidiary of Nissan - Atlet AB. Nissan Motor Company spun off the industrial machinery division in 2010. Nissan Forklift incl. Atlet merged on April 1, 2013 with TCM Corporation to form UniCarriers. In 2015 UniCarriers was taken over by Mitsubishi .
