TCM Corporation ( Toyo Carrier Manufacturing Co., Ltd. ) was a Japanese forklift manufacturer that is now part of Mitsubishi Nichiyu Forklift through UniCarriers .

history

In 1947, Noboru Niwa founded the maintenance company Niwa Maintenance Operation Co., Ltd. In 1949 it became Toyo Carrier Manufacturing Co., Ltd. In the same year, TCM developed and produced Japan's first forklift truck. The first export to China took place just one year later. Until 2013, the company produced other vehicles for material handling, including electric forklifts , shovel excavators , wheel loaders , compact loaders and RTG ( Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane ).

In 1954 the company name changed to Toyo Umpanki Co., Ltd. In 1957, an agreement on technical cooperation was concluded with the US forklift manufacturer Clark , which is to run until 1986. The first representative office outside of Japan opened in Bangkok , Thailand, in 1963 .

In 1965, Hitachi Zosen became the company's major shareholder .

In 1967 TCM opened the first branch in Europe and was thus one of the first Japanese manufacturers to enter the European market.

In 1968 the subsidiary Tou-un Kougyou Co., Ltd. (now Ryugasaki Plant) founded in 1976 TCM America (MBK), Inc. In 1979 the five thousandth skid steer loader was produced. In 1983 the United States Department of Defense ordered over 1,000 machines from the United States .

In 1986, TCM was the first Japanese company to reach an agreement on technical cooperation with several Chinese conveyor manufacturers.

In 1988 the subsidiary TCM Manufacturing USA Inc. was opened in South Carolina , followed two years later by TCM Europe SA in Belgium, and in 1991 Anhui Andong Foundry Co., Ltd. in China. The European production ran through the BN Spoorwegmaterieel en Metaal Constructies NV plant

In 1992, the joint company Mitsui Industrial Machinery GmbH was founded as a distributor in West Germany. The Anhui TCM Forklift Co., Ltd. in China was put into operation in 1993.

On its 50th anniversary, the company was renamed TCM Corporation . In 2001 the subsidiary TCM Asia Distribution Co., Ltd. was founded. in Thailand, 2003 to establish Shanghai TCM Forklift Trading Co., Ltd. in China and TCM Distribution USA Inc. in New Jersey , USA.

In 2003 Hitachi Construction Machinery acquired 32% of the TCM shares and thus entered the company as a major shareholder. In 2006 the Mibu factory was opened and TCM Anhui Machinery Co., Ltd. and TCM Forklift Trucks founded in Texas , USA.

In 2006 TCM held its first world fair in Thailand. In 2008 the subsidiary TCM France SAS in Lyon , France followed.

Three partner companies in the USA merged in 2009 to form TCM America, Inc. In the same year, Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. became the sole shareholder of the company. In 2010 the construction machinery division was transferred to Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. , so that TCM was now solely responsible for the manufacture of forklifts.

On April 1, 2013, Nissan Forklift (including Atlet ) and TCM Corporation merged to form the new company UniCarriers Holdings Corporation , in which the state-dominated PPP company Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) holds 53.3% of the shares, Hitachi Construction Machinery 26.7% and Nissan Motor held 20% and achieved sales of 184.2 billion yen in fiscal 2015 with around 5,500 employees. UniCarriers Corporation was taken over by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in 2015 for around 110 million yen (808 million euros) , making it the world's third-largest manufacturer of forklifts.

In addition to forklifts with combustion engines (diesel or LPG ) and battery-operated forklifts, the company also offers pallet trucks , stackers, order pickers , reach trucks and skid steer loaders.
