Atractotomus parvulus is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 2.3 to 2.7 millimeters long. The genus Atractotomus includes dark-colored species in which the top of the body is covered with flattened, golden or silver hair. The second antenna segment is often very thickened. In Atractotomus parvulus the first antennae is cylindrical and the second is only thickened in females. Atractotomus magnicornis is very similar, but has a slightly longer second antennae and also has a different host plant.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is common in Western and Central Europe as well as in Sweden, Hungary, Croatia and Norway. In Germany it is presumably distributed from the North German lowlands to the Alps, but so far only sporadically proven. Also from Austria there have so far only been isolated finds from Tyrol to Burgenland. In the mountains you can find them up to over 1300 meters above sea level. It is not common.

Way of life

The bugs live differently than Atractotomus magnicornis , with whom they can be found together, apparently only on pines such as Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ) and mountain pine ( Pinus mugo ). Males in particular can be attracted by artificial light sources at night. The adult bugs can be found between late June and early October, with the maximum in July and August. The individual individuals only live for about three weeks.
