Atte Pakkanen

Atte Mikael Johannes Pakkanen (born November 13, 1912 in Urjala , † December 22, 1994 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish politician of the Landbund ML (Maalaisliitto) , who was Minister of Defense in 1957 and Minister of the Interior between 1958 and 1959 .

Life

Pakkanen, son of Juho Pakkanen and Hilja grandma Hilma Turunen, graduated in 1936 and worked as an agronomist until 1945. In 1945 he was briefly secretary of the rural union and then between 1945 and 1950 managing director of the youth association of the rural union MNL (Maaseudun Nuorten Liitto) .

In the election on July 1 and 2, 1948 , he was elected a member of the Reichstag for the Landbund in the constituency of Pirkanmaa , to which he belonged for almost 22 years until March 22, 1970. During his membership in parliament he was a member of various committees. He was also an employee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry between 1950 and 1952 and then from 1952 to 1954 a reporter and presenter at the public broadcasting company Yleisradio , before he worked as an agricultural agent between 1954 and 1955 and then from 1955 to 1975 as deputy vice-president and Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Finnish Savings Banks Association.

On May 27, 1957, Pakkanen was appointed Minister of Defense (Puolustusministeri) in the Sukselainen I cabinet and held this ministerial post until September 1, 1957. At the same time, between May 27 and September 1, 1957, he also served as Deputy Minister of Social Affairs (Ministeri sosiaaliministeriössä ) . In the Fagerholm III cabinet he held the post of Interior Minister (Sisäasiainministeri) between August 29, 1958 and January 12, 1959 .

He was married to Helvi Kansanen since 1943.
