The attack on the US embassy in Sarajevo was a by 28 October 2011 Islamists perpetrated attack on the US Embassy with terrorist background in the BiH City Sarajevo . The attacker shot a Kalashnikov rifle at the US embassy for several minutes, injuring at least one security guard . Islamist extremists were responsible for at least one other attack in the country prior to attacking the embassy. When bomb attack on a police station in Bugojno in 2010 a policeman died.

Procedure and consequences of the attack

The attacker, dressed in a military coat, fired 105 bullets at the embassy building with an AK-47 Kalashnikov . A guard was injured in the 40-minute attack. Security forces finally wounded the shooter with gunfire and arrested him. The assassin was Mevlid Jašarević , who came from the southern Serbian town of Novi Pazar , which is largely inhabited by Bosniaks , grew up in Vienna and then lived temporarily in the Bosnian village of Gornja Maoča . Jašarević was sentenced to 18 years in prison after a trial.

Gornja Maoča's role as a stronghold of radical Islamists

After the Bosnian War Islamist fighters settled in Gornja Maoča instead of the earlier largely displaced Serb residents Afghanistan and other nations, which on the side of the Bosnians as Bosnian mujahideen who fought. The Serbian residents were driven into a house, shot at and the house was then set on fire. 25 people died, entire families were wiped out, only three survived seriously injured.
