Attica Locke (born 1974 in Houston ) is an American writer and screenwriter.

Life

Attica Locke graduated from Northwestern University and was a fellow at the Sundance Institute's Feature Filmmakers Lab . She writes scripts for various media companies, including several episodes in different seasons of the television series Empire , which she also produces.

Locke's first novel Black Water Rising was nominated for multiple book awards and was shortlisted for the British Orange Prize . For Bluebird, Bluebird About a Black Texas Ranger , she won two of the most prestigious crime prizes in 2018 with the Edgar Allan Poe Award and the Anthony Award for the best detective novel of the year.

Locke lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter . Actress Tembi Locke is a sister.
