The Audi Avantissimo was a design study by Audi presented at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt in autumn 2001 , a station wagon intended for the luxury class .

The vehicle had an eight-cylinder - turbo engine with 4.2 liter displacement and 316 kW (430 hp) and a six-stage automatic transmission with paddle shifters . Aluminum chassis , electronically controlled air suspension with level control , electric parking brake , bi-xenon headlights with cornering lights , and quattro all-wheel drive caused a sensation at the IAA. For the first time, the study contained the Audi Multi Media Interface infotainment system and the fingerprint scanner .

The model had an electrochromic glass roof and the seats could be adjusted electrically . The tailgate could be opened continuously up to 70 degrees.
