Aueren Oberstafel

Aueren is a high alp above Netstal in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland .

The alp lies at the foot of the Wiggis and Gumenstock, constantly rising from Netstal parallel to the Klöntal . The pasture area extends from a height of 1354 m, in the so-called Stelli, up to 2248 m, at the summit of Chly Gumen.

Usable area

With a usable area of ​​95 hectares and a summer pasture of 45 cattle units, the alp is one of the smaller Alps in the canton of Glarus .

Access

Access to Aueren is only possible on foot or in a helicopter. The cattle are brought from Netstal via the steep main access route .

Stafel

Aueren is divided into three tables (Latin stapholus = where the shepherds are), where the alpine staff stays with their cattle for a certain time in summer, between June and October.

Milk processing

Ziger and butter used to be made on the Alp . In 1993 a 3.5 km long milk pipeline was laid to Riedern GL as part of a comprehensive renovation program . Since then, there has been no direct milk processing on Aueren, with the exception of the needs of the alpine staff.
