The Klöntal is a valley in the Swiss canton of Glarus .

geography

The Klöntalersee lies at approx. 850  m above sea level. M. and is fed by the Chlü and various smaller waterfalls. In the past, the lake was used by the population for wintry ice breakage. Today it serves as a storage lake for an Axpo AG power plant .

The valley belongs to the municipality of Glarus up to the canton border , it is a scattered settlement . The main livelihood is agriculture, for tourism there are restaurants and two campsites.

traffic

The Klöntal is only served by Postbuses from Glarus in summer (May - October) , but they do not run at noon. The terminus is in Richisau (last houses before the canton border). The road leads along the left (northern) shore of the lake, but is not safe for winter.

The Pragelpass connects the Klöntal with the Muotatal , but is closed to motorized traffic on weekends (only accessible with bicycles ).

history

Richisau was known as a health resort in the second half of the 19th century, which was also visited by artists such as Conrad Ferdinand Meyer , Carl Spitteler and Arnold Böcklin and appreciated for the beauty of the landscape.
