history

The AufBauWerk was founded in 1953 under the name of Aufbauwerk der Jugend with voluntary work under the direction of Hermann Pepeunig. Through this work, families could be supported within the framework of the mountain farmers and settlers aid, and on the other hand it was an employment program for unemployed young people who could not yet find a job due to the destruction of the war. There were also workshops for disabled and socially endangered young people, as well as probation assistance for young people who had committed criminal offenses. By expanding an old barrack, a youth hostel was set up, which to this day also serves as a home for vocational students.

In 1956, the Tyrolean provincial government commissioned the Aufbauwerk der Jugend to provide adequate care, accommodation and training for young, single Hungarian refugees; also in 1956, the Tyrolean provincial government decided to give Lengberg Castle to the Aufbauwerk to carry out its tasks to leave.

In 1958, with the help of the Swedish aid organization Rädda Barnen, the Fritz Prior Sweden House was built in Innsbruck.

The structure has been the tenant of the Lachhof in Kleinvolderberg since 1970 , which was renovated from 1980 to 1984 and again from 2010 to 2011.

In 1981 it was possible to expand the Sweden House with the help of the Tyrolean state government to include the workshop part. The Bad Häring workshops , a former school building that was rented by the Tyrolean provincial government, has existed since 1991. In April 1998, the area of activity at the Lachhof was expanded to include agriculture, which today works according to the Green Care principle.

In 2003, the furniture exchange was founded in cooperation with the Telfs social district, where furniture is restored and sold as part of a socio-educational project. In 2005 the project "Supervised work" was initiated to support apprentices , which is financed by the Federal Social Welfare Office. From 2008 to 2010, extensive archaeological finds came to light during the renovation work at Lengberg Castle.

The structure is a founding member of the working group of social service providers for people with disabilities, learning difficulties and mental impairments in Tyrol arge Sodit , which was launched in November 2011.

In July 2013, Hermann Pepeunig was stripped of the social honorary mark of the city of Innsbruck, which had been awarded to young people in 1983 despite two convictions for grievous bodily harm in the 1950s and 1960s. This took place because of his National Socialist past (1932 illegal member of the NSDAP, later with SA, SS and HJ-Bannführer von Kufstein and Innsbruck, recruiting reserve of the Waffen-SS) and his violent attitude to educational issues.

In 2013, the Aufbauwerk der Jugend commissioned the Institute for Contemporary History at the University of Innsbruck with the study "The Aufbauwerk der Jugend from the founding of the working group to the end of the 1980s: the founding generation, networking and areas of responsibility".

Since 2014 the official name of the association has been "AufBauWerk - Companies for Young People". Also in 2014 the AufBauWerk was system-certified according to ISO 9001 by Quality Austria.
