zeitgeschichte is an Austrian magazine with articles on the history of Austria in the 20th century. The magazine was founded in 1973 by Erika Weinzierl and the publisher Hannes Geyer (Geyer Edition) and contains articles on the political, economic, social, women's and gender as well as the history of ideas and culture. The target group of “zeitgeschichte” is not only historians but also adult educators and teachers.

The journal was published by Studienverlag until 2017, and has been published by Vienna University Press ( V & R unipress ) since 2018 .

The magazine appears six times a year and contains three larger articles and reviews of current specialist literature. All Austrian university institutes for contemporary history in Vienna , Graz , Salzburg , Klagenfurt am Wörthersee and Linz are involved in the editing . Oliver Rathkolb has been managing editor of the magazine since 2005 .
