Augie Meyers

August "Augie" Meyers (* 31 May 1940 in San Antonio , Texas ) is a US -American musician . He was best known as the keyboardist of the Sir Douglas Quintet and later the Texas Tornados .

Life

In the early 1960s, Meyers was a founding member of the Sir Douglas Quintet alongside Doug Sahm . With his typical Vox organ playing he shaped the sound of the quintet on hits like She's About A Mover (1964), Mendocino (1969), Nuevo Laredo (1970) and many others. Meyers later played on several of Sahm's solo albums and released his own records, also in the Tex-Mex style.

In the 1990s, Meyers was a member of the Tex-Mex supergroup Texas Tornados alongside Doug Sahm , Flaco Jimenez and Freddy Fender . Meyers was also in demand as a studio musician. He worked u. a. starred on Bob Dylan's albums Time Out of Mind (1997) and Love and Theft (2001).

Meyers lives in Bulverde , Texas . Since the 1970s he has also been running his own record labels from there, such as The Texas Record Company, Superbeet Records and White Boy Records.
