August Graf von Platen Prize

The August Graf von Platen Literature Prize is a German literature prize that is awarded every two years in honor of the Ansbach-born poet August Graf von Platen (1796–1835).

history

The Kulturverein Speckdrumm eV (since 2019 Kulturforum Ansbach eV) initiates and organizes the award, which is financed by several sponsors including the city of Ansbach . The award is endowed with 5,000 euros, the sponsorship award with 1,500 euros. Every two years, the winners are chosen from 10 authors who present themselves for the "LesLust" series, a reading series that takes place every spring in Ansbach. The authors must have a Franconian connection, be born in Franconia , live there or write about it. The jury consists of the sponsors and one representative each from the national press, the University of Erlangen and the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation, as well as the previous winner.

The first prize winner in 2005 was Peter Horst Neumann . In 2007 the prize was awarded posthumously to Hans Wollschläger , in 2009 it was awarded to Gerhard Falkner . The sponsorship award, which was first awarded in 2009, was awarded to Christiane Neudecker . In 2011 the main prize went to Fitzgerald Kusz , the sponsorship prize to Christian Schloyer . In 2013 the main prize went to Nora Gomringer , the sponsorship prize to Nataša Dragnić. In 2015 Gunther Geltinger and Tessa Müller (sponsorship award) were awarded. Natascha Wodin received the main prize in 2017. A special prize was awarded for the first time in 2017, which was presented to Thomas Medicus. In 2019 Joachim Sartorius was awarded the main prize, Gerasimos Bekas received the sponsorship prize.
