August Bensen

August Bensen (born May 31, 1825 in Hanover ; † January 9, 1907 there ) was a German railway official.

Life

August Bensen began his career in 1845 as a railway official in the Hanoverian service. After the annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover by Prussia in 1866, he entered the Prussian civil service and was appointed railway director in Saarbrücken by the Prussian government . During the Franco-Prussian War he was active in the transport of troops. He then became chairman of the Royal Railway Commissioner in Berlin. Here he was appointed to the Secret Government Council and later to the Secret Upper Government Council. Until March 31, 1895, the railway commissioner's office in Prussia was the supervisory authority for all private railways, subordinate to the Minister for Public Works. After his fiftieth anniversary in February 1895, he retired. For his services to the state supervision of private railways, August Bensen u. a. In 1890 with the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the Duke of Saxony-Ernestine House Order and the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves and in the following year with the Commander's Cross of the Oldenburg House and Merit Order of Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig and in 1895 with the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the order Henry the Lion awarded.

He was a member of the Corps Slesvico-Holsatia as well as the Berlin Masonic lodge to the three Seraphim .
