August Berlin (politician)

August Berlin (* 2. February 1910 in Brake / lip ; † 11. July 1981 in Lemgo ) was a German politician of the SPD .

Life and work

After elementary school, Berlin, which was non-denominational , completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. He worked in this profession until 1945. In 1933 he was taken into protective custody. From 1940 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier .

Political party

Even as a teenager, Berlin was involved in the socialist youth workers . In 1928 he joined the SPD. In the last years of the Weimar Republic , Berlin was used by the SPD in the election campaigns to protect Felix Fechenbach , who was constantly threatened by the National Socialists and who was finally killed on August 7, 1933. In 1945 he became the full-time secretary of the Social Democrats for the Lipperland.

After the Second World War, Berlin was elected to the city council of Lemgo , where he chaired the SPD parliamentary group, and the district council of the Lemgo district.

He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election from 1949 to 1972 and was always directly elected in the constituency of Detmold (since 1965 Detmold - Lippe ).
