August Burchard (gynecologist)

Johann August Burchard ( Latinized Joannes Augustus Burchard ; born June 24, 1800 in Kopanice in Posen ; † July 11, 1866 ) was a German physician, gynecologist, university professor and director of the midwifery institute in Breslau .

Life

August Burchard was the son of a government inspector and the older brother of the medical doctor Friedrich Leopold Burchard, who was born in Poznan .

In 1824 he submitted a medical dissertation at the University of Breslau under the Latin title De evolutionum et involutionum organismi humani phaenomenis, tum physiologicis tum pathologicis .

In 1839 he was awarded the title of Royal Prussian Councilor as a "secondary doctor" at the "[...] obstetrical clinic".

On October 15, 1853, Johann August Burchard, who in the meantime also taught medicine and obstetrics at the University of Breslau, was accepted as a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .
