August Durant

August Durant ( 1790 in Silesia - February 12, 1852 ) was a German stage actor .

Life

Originally intended as a theologian, he studied in Halle. However, a passing acting company caused him to go to the stage. In Weimar he was personally instructed by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe . He made his debut on January 13, 1812 as "Aujust" in Die Ehescheuen . In Weimar he became Goethe's favorites and was sponsored by him. Goethe gradually assigned him the roles of Pius Alexander Wolff . As "Posa" he came closest to Wolff. After acting as a teenage lover, he gradually moved into the field of hero fathers and older character roles.

Durant remained loyal to the Weimar stage out of gratitude to Goethe and Friedrich Schiller . He even did little or no guest performances. He died in the midst of his art on February 12, 1852.

Durant was married to actress Ernestine Engels .
