Ernestine Engels
Ernestine Engels , actually Ernestine Engel , married Ernestine Durant , ( 1785 - June 24, 1845 in Weimar ) was a German theater actress .
Life
This artist, whose real name was Engel (Goethe made her add the "s" to her name), was also trained at the Goethe-Schiller school and, like her husband August Durant, only worked on the Weimar stage. She was not noticed as a lover. It was only used in the second roles in both drama and opera. But later, when she went over to the maternity leave, she became the successor of the old Beck , her achievements appeared highly noteworthy, and so one could delight in her representations.
The "wet nurse" in Romeo and Juliet , "fruit dealer Susanne" in Armen Poeten (a popular repertoire piece at the time), like her chaperones ("Duchess of Friedland" etc.), could not be put into better hands. This honorable artist died on June 24, 1845 in Weimar.
She is buried in the historical cemetery in Weimar .
