August Ernst Petzholtz (* 1801 in Potsdam ; † 1868 there ) was a German court mason and court architect in Potsdam.

Life

Little is known about his life and work. There is evidence of masonry work on the Church of St. Nikolai in Potsdam, which he carried out for seven years according to plans by the “architect of the king” Ludwig Persius . As an employee of Persius' successor Ferdinand von Arnim , he was involved in work in the Klein Glienicke park and in the renovation of the Glienicke hunting lodge . Petzholtz took over his duties after the death of Arnims in 1866 until his own death in 1868.

He was followed by his only son from his first marriage to Friederike Gottschling (1814–1839), who later became court architect and master mason (Friedrich) Ernst Petzholtz . After the death of his first wife, he married her sister Marie-Luise Gottschling (1817–1877) in 1839. The later court mason Friedrich, or Fritz (1841–1894) and Ludwig (1843–1903), the pastor of St. Peter and Paul on Nikolskoje from 1872 and later superintendent at the Church of St. Nikolai, come from the second marriage .

On December 24, 1858, August Ernst Petzholtz was appointed court architect and from 1859 was a member of the "Examination Commission for Builders", "Member of the City Council Assembly in Potsdam" and "Member of the Prussian Building Deputation". From 1862 he was listed as master mason.
