August Grothaus
August Grothaus (* around 1812; † after 1841) was a German genre and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Coming from Barmen , Grothaus studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1833 to 1839 . There he was a student of Theodor Hildebrandt . From 1835 he exhibited in Düsseldorf. In 1837 and 1841 he sent exhibitions to the Leipzig Art Association . He created portraits and paintings with titles such as Deer , Crusader and Evening Prayer of the Reaper .
