Life

Markwordt initially began an apprenticeship as a typesetter, but also worked in amateur theaters. At the age of 17 he finally decided on a career in theater and made his debut on November 17, 1849 in the small role of "jeweler" in the spendthrift at Magdeburg Theater. Initially he worked in the second or third lover's roles until he was advised to take the comic subject. He dared to try this as "Fridolin" in the corridor to the iron hammer . He then went to Strelitz, Posen, Hamburg, the Aktientheater in Rostock, the Stralsund Theater , the Summer Theater in Leipzig and Mainz, before he was appointed to the State Theater in Prague in 1858, where he made his successful debut as "Doktor Peschke". In 1862 he went to Vienna at the Carltheater and in 1864 to Riga. There he worked for a long time in the field of youthful comic roles and also sang as a tenor buffo in lyrical roles.

Markwordt never left Riga and was made an honorary member of the Riga Theater on the occasion of his 50th stage anniversary. He gave his farewell performance on May 15, 1900 as "Justus Wörmann" in Wallflower . He could not enjoy his retirement for long because he died a few weeks later on June 22, 1900.

His daughter Clara Markwordt was also a stage actress.
