August Herman Pound

August Herman Pfund (born December 28, 1879 in Madison , Wisconsin , † January 4, 1949 ) was an American physicist and spectroscopist.

Pfund was a professor of optics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore , Maryland .

In 1924 he discovered the series named after him in the spectrum of hydrogen ( pound series ). In addition, Pfund invented a telescope arrangement.

In 1939 he was awarded the Frederic Ives Medal .
