August Riebe

Karl August Riebe (born December 25, 1867 in Potsdam , † May 5, 1936 in Dresden ) was a German engineer and entrepreneur.

Life

After attending secondary school in Potsdam and the Mittweida technical center , August Riebe worked as a design engineer and production engineer in various Western European countries. From 1898 worked in a managerial position at the German weapons and ammunition factories (DWM) in Berlin. Together with Richard Stribeck , Riebe developed the deep groove ball bearing . Between 1905 and 1907 he built a ball bearing factory in France for DWM. In 1909 Riebe was a co-founder of the "Riebe ball bearing and tool factory" in Berlin-Weissensee. In 1921, together with his son-in-law Erich Kraemer and someone else involved, he took over the Berliner Kugellager-Fabrik GmbH A. Riebe (founded in 1906) in Berlin-Wittenau, which he managed from 1922 to 1928. In 1929 the “United Ball Bearing Factories” were formed under the leadership of SKF . As a result of the global economic crisis , the plant in Wittenau was shut down. In 1933 it was bought by the Friedrichshafen gear factory .

From 1926 to 1936, Riebe was a member of the engineering aid board of trustees. In 1935 the Association of German Engineers made him an honorary member.
