Auguste Champetier de Ribes (born July 30, 1882 in Antony , † March 6, 1947 in Paris ) was a French lawyer and politician .

As a devout Catholic, he joined the movement of Albert de Mun early on. After his participation in the First World War he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies as a member of the Christian Democratic Parti démocrate populaire (PDP) for the Basses-Pyrénées department , to which he belonged from 1924 to 1934. He was a member of the Senate from 1934 to 1940 and was a minister under André Tardieu , Édouard Daladier , Paul Reynaud and Pierre Laval .

de Ribes was one of the 80 parliamentarians who voted against the establishment of the Vichy regime on July 10, 1940 . After the capitulation of France, he joined the Resistance . After the war, Charles de Gaulle commissioned him to take part in the Nuremberg trial as a representative of France .

After the trial was over, he was elected President of the Senate because of his seniority . He took part in the 1947 presidential election as a candidate for the MRP . For health reasons, it was no longer possible for him to resume his office as Senate President.
