Auguste Désiré Bernard Wolff (born May 3, 1821 in Paris ; † February 3, 1887 there ) was a French pianist, piano maker and composer.

life and work

Wolff attended the Paris Conservatory as a student of Pierre Zimmermann (piano) and Jacques Fromental Halévy (composition) . He taught piano there himself for five years. In 1850 he joined the Pleyel piano factory . In 1852 he became a partner in Pleyel-Wolff & Cie . In 1855 after Pleyel's death, he took over the company.

Wolff published various piano compositions. He donated the annual Prix ​​Pleyel-Wolff for the best piano work with and without orchestra. Wolff found improvements to the double release, a transposer and the pedale-tonale .
