Auguste Viktoria of Hohenzollern
Auguste Viktoria Princess of Hohenzollern (full name Auguste Viktoria Wilhelmine Antonie Mathilde Ludovika Josephine Maria Elisabeth ; born August 19, 1890 in Potsdam , † August 29, 1966 in Münchhöf-Homberg ) was the wife of Emanuel II , the last crowned king of Portugal .
Life
She was born as the daughter of Prince Wilhelm von Hohenzollern and Maria Theresa of Naples-Sicily , a born princess of both Sicilies . Her parents later became Prince and Princess of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.
In 1913 she married Dom Manuel II of Portugal. Her father, Prince Wilhelm von Hohenzollern, organized the solemn wedding in the castle in Sigmaringen. Don Emanuel II and Auguste-Victoria lived in exile at Fulwell Park Castle near Twickenham near London after their wedding . After the fall of the Portuguese monarchy, they were no longer a ruling noble family, but only titular king and titular queen. According to the naming rights of the nobility, women can take the name of their husband at the wedding. At the civil wedding, Princess Auguste-Victoria von Hohenzollern took on the name "Auguste-Victoria Queen of Portugal", which she carried under civil law until her marriage to Count Douglas. The marriage to King Dom Manuel II of Portugal remained childless.
After the death of King Emanuel II, she left England and from 1932 to 1934 had a new castle built in the English country house style on the estate of her brother Friedrich Fürst von Hohenzollern in Umkirch near Freiburg, which she also " Fulwell Park ”. The property was popularly called the "country house". On April 23, 1939, she married her childhood friend Robert Graf Douglas (1880–1955), with whom she lived alternately on Lake Constance and in Breisgau. She spent her twilight years at Schloss Münchhof , a country house near Münchhöf-Homberg, a district of Eigeltingen and in Fulwell Park Umkirch, which was renamed Queen Auguste Victoria Park in her honor after her death . In numerous public documents her first name Viktoria was written with a "c" for Victoria.
