The Augustenpassage is a 200-meter-long street in the Sternschanze district of Hamburg , in a west-east direction between the streets Neuer Pferdemarkt and Sternstraße .

History

On CF Gaedchen's “Historischer Topographie von Hamburg” from 1880, today's Augustenpassage appears as an as yet unnamed strait starting from Sternstrasse, to the south of which the neighboring Beckstrasse , which is also an impasse, is already entered by name.

On "C. Adlers Plan von Wandsbek - Hamburg - Altona - and the surrounding area" from 1886 as well as the 1889 map "Hamburg with free port and suburbs" from the "Lithografische Anstalt von C. Adler", Hamburg, the Augustenpassage appears for the first time with names and as a continuous street to the street "A. n. horse market ".
"Augusten P." is on a city map from 1900, with a building called "
Hagenbek Thierpark " [sic!] Being entered on the corner of the adjoining Schanzenstrasse .

In the list of cultural monuments in Hamburg-Sternschanze , the entire contiguous residential building of the Augustenpassage with all house numbers is dated to the period "1860/1870".

Current state

With 220 apartments, the Swedish real estate group Akelius is the largest owner of the properties in the Augustenpassage (as of 12/2013). Today's Augustenpassage has a continuous, uniform, four to five-storey residential block with nine individual apartment entrances with house numbers from 3 to 19 without the even numbers in between. Each section has a staircase and, on both sides, a staircase companionway to a basement apartment. At each staircase there is an outside lantern in the style of old gas lamps , these light up in different colors. Each color appears twice, except blue, which is only located at house number 13.
The whole building is a listed building.

At the end of the new horse market there is a transverse building with a gate passage. The building block ends on Sternstraße with a corner building with access on Sternstraße. Both ends of the road have barriers that do not allow through traffic, but are open to vehicles from craftsmen and suppliers.

The road surface consists of irregularly laid cat's head pavement throughout , in a narrow area in front of the house front there is a smooth paved footpath area .

The northern side of the street borders the school yard area of the Ludwigstrasse school and has a continuous fence with a screen. Garbage boxes and bicycle parking facilities are distributed along this boundary. On the side of the schoolyard behind it, there is continuous tree vegetation, the branches of which extend to the front of the residential building; this is "decorated" with numerous used and thrown over pairs of shoes .
