Augustina's Povilaitis

Augustinas Povilaitis (born February 24, 1900 in Pašventys , Jurbarkas district ; † July 12, 1941 in Moscow ) was a Lithuanian police officer and head of Valstybės saugumo departamentas (VSD).

Life

He grew up in a family with 11 children. He was a volunteer in the Lithuanian Army. From 1920 to 1927 he worked in the security police as an officer. From 1927 to 1931 he was the personal secretary of the director of the criminal investigation department . From 1931 to 1934 he headed the State Security Police . From 1934 to 1940 he was director of VSD at the Ministry of Interior of Lithuania . In 1933 he graduated from the externally Erwachesenen Gymnasium Kaunas and 1939 the Department of Economics, Faculty of Law Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas . In 1940 he and Kazys Skučas were arrested by the Soviet occupation government and interrogated in Kauno fortas , sentenced to the death penalty in 1941 by the Supreme Court of the Soviet Union . In 1941 he was shot near Butyrka and rehabilitated in 1993.

A street in Aleksotas has been named after him since 1994 .
