Augustinian monastery in Landsberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Augustinian monastery was possibly a monastery of the order of the Augustinian hermits in Landsberg in Neumark in Brandenburg , today Gorzów, in the 14th century.

location

The location of the monastery is uncertain. The southeast corner of the old town, in which the castle of the Teutonic Order then stood, or a location in Woll- / Poststrasse, which was later referred to as a monastery , but an alleged women's monastery, would be possible. It was probably not on the market square east of St. Mary's Church, where a Münchehof is said to have been.

history

The monastery was only mentioned once around 1375, so its existence is not entirely certain. The statutes of the Kammin diocese stipulated that the Augustinian monastery in Landsberg had to deliver a barrel of Landsberg wine to the bishop every year. A foundation would be possible after the city fire of 1350, when Landsberg developed into one of the wealthiest cities in Neumark. In 1391 it could have been destroyed again in another city fire, as it was no longer mentioned in an agreement between the Augustinian monasteries of Neumark in 1415.

The monastery probably belonged to the province of Marchia-Pruzzia and had several appointments .

Remarks

  1. It could be confused with the Augustinian monastery Friedeberg, which was not mentioned in the statutes and had to pay similar taxes.
