Augustine Zhao Rong
Augustine Zhao Rong ( Chinese 趙榮 / 赵荣 , Pinyin Zhao Rong * 1746 in Wuchuan (Zunyi) , Chinese Empire ; † 20th March 1815 in Chengdu ) was a soldier in the Imperial Army of China and is in the Roman Catholic Church as Saint whose feast day has been listed in the Calendarium Romanum Generale since 2002 .
Zhào Róng converted to Christianity at the age of 30 when he transferred Christian prisoners to Beijing and was impressed by their faithfulness. He was ordained a priest at the age of 35 . In 1815 he was himself a martyr during the persecution of Emperor Jiaqing .
His liturgical feast day is on July 9 , the feast day of the 120 Chinese martyrs canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2000 . Many of the Catholic and Orthodox martyrs, as well as many Protestant witnesses of faith, died during the Boxer Rebellion .
