Augustyn Wincenty Locci (* around 1640 in Warsaw ; † October 22, 1732 ) was a Polish architect of Italian descent, who was also an advisor to King John III. Sobieski served.

Life

Locci was the son of Augustyn Locci and Urszula Dorota Giza, who immigrated to Poland from Italy and worked as builders at the court of the Wasa kings . He did not receive any classical training as an architect, but was able to convince with his wealth of ideas and his technical understanding. In 1673 he was granted the right ( indigenous ) to carry a noble coat of arms.

Locci is considered a confidante of Jan III. and acted as its secretary and chief engineer. For his patrons he designed new buildings and conversions as well as furnishings of royal residences (e.g. in Żółkiew and at the Warsaw Royal Castle ). His most important work was the construction of the royal palace in Wilanów from 1677 to 1696. Andreas Schlueter probably worked there under him . In addition to the royal orders, he also carried out work for various Polish magnates , such as the construction of the Radziwiłł Gallery, the expansion of the castle in Radzyń Podlaski or the reconstruction of the Czapski Palace in Warsaw.

As a token of appreciation for the king, he received an annuity (until death) of 2,000 złoty (paid by the Wieliczka Salt Mine ). He was also allocated land in the form of the villages of Mokotów , Rakowiec, Witkowiec, Wyględów, Grotów and Grotówek near Warsaw . In 1706 he married Anna Szymanowska, who brought a significant dowry (land in Słubica and Bukówka in today's Powiat Piaseczyński ) into the marriage. Since Locci had no children of his own, he bequeathed his considerable fortune to his nephew Franciszek Locci, a son of his brother Kazimierz. Locci was buried at the Carmelite Church of the Nativity in Warsaw.
