Augustyn Locci (also called Agostino Locci or Augustyn Locci Starszy , * around 1601 in Narni ; † 1660 ) was an engineer, builder and interior designer from Italy who worked in Poland at the court of the Wasa kings. He is considered a representative of the “Polish Baroque”. His son was also an architect in Warsaw active Augustyn Wincenty Locci .

Life

Locci was the son of Erasmus and Victoria (nee Raymundi or Raimondi). Probably around 1630 he came to Poland and served three kings of the Wasa dynasty - Sigismund III. , Władysław IV. And John II Casimir .

He directed the renovation and establishment of the Ujazdowski Castle and designed the park surrounding the complex. The area around the Sigismund Column was designed according to his suggestions . He designed the reconstruction of the Kazimierz Palace in 1650. From 1651 Locci bore the title of royal architect. Another activity of Locci was the construction of theater machines and unusual stage decorations.

Locci lived with his family in the Warsaw Royal Castle ; a token of the esteem he was shown at court. He was married to Urszula Dorota Giza and had five children - sons Augustyn Wincenty, Franciszek, Kazimierz and Jan and their daughter Cecylia, who later became a nun. His widow married the royal secretary Jerzy Pipan for the second time.
