The family first appears in a document on October 23, 1252 with Janussius named Ulebogk and his son Ratibor , with whom the line of the family begins.

The family's coat of arms shows a striding black bull in silver . A growing bull stands on the helmet with its black and silver covers .
In the Silesian Wappenbuch the same coat of arms is shown in the colors red and silver.
