Hans Sylvius Hermann Maria von Aulock (born November 27, 1906 in Ohlau , † November 23, 1980 near Ankara ) was a German banker and numismatist .

Hans von Aulock belonged to the Silesian noble family of the Aulocks and was the eldest son of Major Johannes von Aulock (* 1878). He attended the Prussian main cadet institute in Lichterfelde . From 1926 to 1928 he trained as a foreign trade merchant, which was followed by an internship at a bank in London . From 1930 to 1933 he stayed in South Africa . In 1934 he went to Dresdner Bank , where he worked first in Berlin and from 1941 in Istanbul as deputy head of the local branch of the bank ( Deutsche Orientbank ). Von Aulock was critical of National Socialism , which is why he applied for asylum in Turkey after diplomatic relations between Turkey and Germany were broken off. He was then interned, but was released after a short time and became an advisor to Türkiye İş Bankası . In 1952 von Aulock became head of the Dresdner Bank representative office in Istanbul, which he remained until his retirement in 1971. He and his wife Epiphania Coppola (1911–1980) died in a car accident.

After von Aulock came to Turkey, he developed an interest in ancient coins and amassed a collection of around 9,000 pieces in his life. A central component were coins from Asia Minor from the Roman Empire . His collection was published in 18 volumes of the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum series , for the most part by von Aulock himself, who had acquired his knowledge not through studies or training, but as an autodidact. To this day it is an important reference work for Greek coins from the Roman Empire. In particular, he researched the bronze coins in this area and presented several individual studies on the coins in various cities. 1970, he was from the University of Frankfurt , the honorary doctorate awarded. The collection was dissolved and sold after von Aulock's death. Significant holdings can now be found in the British Museum in London.
